This is a two part course.  Part 1 will cover prion diseases (approx 1 hour), the science and how its contracted. The history of the diseases, types and classifications of prion diseases; and how CJD is diagnosed in the lab. In part 2 (approx 1 hour), participants will understand options for diagnosis if the laboratory does not want to do in-house tissue processing for H&E slides, and learn CJD safety.

CEUs: This histology course is worth 2 continuing education credit. Course is available for 365 days from date of purchase.

Ms. Zeitner worked 45 years in histology with emphasis on brain, muscle and safety techniques. The last 15 years of employment at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha were in a dedicated neuropathology laboratory. I received specialty training in CJD procedures in Leeds England and Edinburgh Scotland, and handled and processed numerous cases over the course of my career. I recently retired but keep up to date with CJD procedures and continue to give CJD handling information to hospital labs
